In the run-up to Rangers Europa League qualifier with FC Midtjylland, there’s been plenty of talk about fan safety and security in Scotland.
But between crushes, disabled shelter roofs and some disgraceful commentary over them, there’s been some refreshing words coming out of Denmark about the visit of Rangers.
If you listen to some, you’d think a rampaging bunch of lunatics were about to touch down in Scandinavia.
But the FC Midtjylland security manager, Lars Pedersen, has been talking up the Ibrox club’s visit.
“As a club, we never compromise on security. And we won’t do that against Rangers either,” said Pedersen, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Rangers have 600 fans in the away section and 143 in the main stand, which go to club directors and players’ families.
“The Scots generally have a good reputation. They are happy and positive people. And in the football sense, it is extremely rare to hear about riots.
“We have the impression that the Rangers fans who show up on Thursday are ordinary people who just want to enjoy themselves and enjoy a good football match.”

Pedersen’s comments have been refreshing in a week were off-field drama has dominated the Scottish sports press.
Largely, Rangers and their supporters have been subjected to quite a barrage despite clear issues with the ticketing arrangements at Kilmarnock.
The entire thing turned nasty when BBC Scotland’s Tom English sarcastically challenged talk of a crush at Rugby Park, resulting in Rangers Supporters Liaison Officer Greg Marshall demanding an apology.
Any Rangers fans travelling to Denmark will be looking forward to enjoying the city of Herning in a welcome mistake from the goldfish bowl of Scotland.
