Fans full of praise as star says farewell ahead of Rangers return

Greg Docherty is on his way back to Rangers.
The 22-year-old’s work south of the border is done, after helping Shrewsbury Town retain their League One status.

He made a whopping 50 appearances for his adopted side this season, scoring ten times. He demonstrated his worth as a creator, too, with eight assists in the league.
Week in week out, it seemed that if Docherty performed, the Shrews did too.

A regular starter under both managers, John Askey and then Sam Ricketts, it’s clear he has a lot to offer in the middle of the park.
That was recognised over the weekend. After
winning several prizes at a recent fans awards night, he scooped the official Shrewsbury Town Player of the Year award.

You can’t ask for much more than that from a loanee.
Not only did he go away, play games and contribute to goals, but he was also the best performer at his adopted side over the course of the season.

After a nervy final few weeks, the Shrews finished on 52 points. That’s two clear of the relegation zone.
With the regular league season now complete, though, it seems that Docherty is wasting no time getting back to Glasgow.

He posted on Twitter on Thursday to thank Shrewsbury and the fans for their support during his stint. In turn, plenty of fans took the opportunity to say farewell and to wish him well in future endeavours.
