Outgoing Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne has gunned for Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell, saying that at times the head of Rangers’ biggest rivals wields too much power in Scotland.

Speaking as he prepares to step down from his role at Aberdeen [Aberdeen] and pass it on to Dave Cormack amid a new partnership with Atlanta United in the US, Milne didn’t mince his words about Lawwell.

“I think it would be fair to say that Peter is a strong character,” said Milne [BBC Scotland].

“He’s in a powerful position. He’s a wise, intelligent guy. He knows how to look after the interests of his club.

“I wouldn’t go as far as saying that he runs Scottish football but Peter does bear a considerable influence.

“[Does he have too much power?] At times possibly, yeah.”

“And I’ll be seeing Peter and I’ll remind him that you told me to tell him that.”

It’s not the first time there have been accusations levelled at Celtic chief Lawwell in consideration of the sway he holds in Scotland.

Back in 2017 former St. Mirren chairman Stewart Gilmour claimed that Lawwell runs Scottish football in an interview with BBC Sportsound.

Peter Lawwell was also in charge back in 2008, when George Peat claims an unnamed rival SPFL club chief phoned him to refute Rangers attempts at extending the league season.

The Ibrox club had achieved the astonishing feat of reaching the UEFA Cup Final and a move to give Walter Smith’s side the best chance by rescheduling fixtures was blocked.
