Ex-Rangers wonderkid Rory Wilson has taken his relentless goalscoring form south of the border as the lights up the Premier League youth leagues with Aston Villa.

The Ibrox side were disappointed to lose out on the prolific young forward, whose 40+ goals at youth level saw Aston Villa come knocking back in 2022.

And the Scotland U21 international striker has wasted no time in leaving an impression in the Premier League youth division as Rory Wilson finds his form with Aston Villa.

The young striker has netted 11 goals in 7 games in the U18s Premier League and as a result has been handed a couple of appearances in the Premier League 2.

It gives an inclination into one of the Scottish game’s top young talents and perhaps Rangers will rue a failure to convince Rory Wilson in the years ahead.

Rory Wilson looks to Aston Villa, Rangers look elsewhere

Rangers have got several talented young options in their youth squad but Rory Wilson’s style and goalscoring prowess is already earning him comparisons to Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane.

Speaking about his ambitions at Aston Villa, Rory Wilson has daubed Unai Emery’s squad as “world class” and claims he’s biding his time for an opportunity.

“It’s a really strong squad we have,” Wilson told the Herald. “I need to keep pushing on and if I get the opportunity, just try my best.

“Obviously, the standard down there is top drawer especially with the first team. There are world class players everywhere.”

Whilst Aston Villa talent Rory Wilson may well join Billy Gilmour in becoming another one that got away for Rangers, the club’s youth options are bright.

Leon King continues to push for a first-team place whilst young winger Ross McCausland is in negotiations over a new contract and England youth international striker Zak Lovelace is close to becoming a regular feature.

Philippe Clement might also have his own Barry Ferguson a la Dick Advocaat in the shape of teenage midfielder Bailey Rice.
