Former Rangers star Ryan Hardie nets a deadly double for Plymouth Argyle as they run out derby winners over Exeter City to stretch their lead at the top of League One.

The 25-year-old striker netted twice in a 4-2 win for promotion candidates Plymouth Argyle who now sit four points clear at the top of the English third flight.

Ryan Hardie scored twice to win the day for Argyle, who twice had to come from behind in an enthralling derby clash on the English south coast.

Archie Finn Collins had given Exeter the lead before Morgan Whittaker equalised just minutes later, with a similar situation happening in the second half.

Sam Nobre restored Exeter’s lead before a powerful Bali Mumba effort pegged the Grecians back, with ex-Rangers striker Ryan Hardie coming off the bench to score a second half double and win the match.

Ryan Hardie, 25, came through the youth ranks at Rangers but after struggling to break through into the first team was farmed out on a series of loan moves.

These include to Raith Rovers, St Mirren and Livingston, with Hardie eventually moving down south permanently with Blackpool in 2019.

After struggling to get proper gametime with the Seasiders, Ryan Hardie initially joined Plymouth Argyle on loan a year later and the ex-Rangers striker made the switch permanent at the end of that season.

In total, Ryan Hardie made 17 appearances for the Rangers first team but only managed to find the back of the net twice for the Light Blues.
