Former Rangers midfielder Stephen Kelly has been talking to a leading national newspaper ahead of a potential return to Ibrox and after his first start for Livingston.

The Ibrox academy star is not 22-years-old and after failing to consistently break through into the first team in Govan was signed by David Martindale’s team this summer.

This followed a series of loan moves where Kelly tuned out for the likes of Ayr United in the Scottish Championship, Ross County in the country’s top division and Salford City down south.

But despite being highly-rated at Rangers, the midfielder only managed three games for the club and given the fact Stephen Kelly was at such an important stage in his career a summer move always seemed likely.

Up stepped Livingston to give the kid a chance and after a couple of Premiership substitute appearances for the Lions, Kelly made his top tier debut for the club in the 1-0 win over St Johnstone at the weekend.

With Livingston knocked out of the League Cup before Stephen Kelly even joined the side, a trip to Rangers in the Scottish Premiership is next up for the team with the midfielder in line to start.

Now Livingston star Stephen Kelly discusses Rangers return

Speaking to the Herald about life at Livingston and after Rangers in an in-depth interview well worth a gander, the youngster discussed returning to the ground he came through at in football this weekend.

“When it comes to 3pm, if I’m playing or on the bench or whatever, it’s 11 v 11 at the end of the day,” said Kelly [Herald].

“Everybody knows the size of the Old Firm, I’ve been at one of them for a long time but I’ll just try and focus on it as another game. There might be a wee extra added on to it.

“I know a lot of people there so it might be strange, I will just try and focus on the game as long as possible.”

Rangers face Livingston at 3pm on Saturday as they continue their hunt to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title.

Meanwhile, one ex-Rangers star was involved in an on-pitch brawl with his new club in a six-goal thriller than saw four men sent off.
