Ex-Rangers star Wes Foderingham found himself at the centre of a Sheffield United scrap as the goalkeeper wound up one of four red cards in a six-goal Championship thriller against Blackpool.

Former Ibrox stopper Foderingham was sent off after the final whistle in the pulsating encounter at Bramall Lane after a full-time scrap with Shayne Lavery had both players rolling around the ground.

This came after the goalkeeper’s team Sheffield United had equalised in the 98th minute via Northern Irish international midfielder Oliver Norwood.

Once Rangers-linked Man City youngster James McAtee opened the scoring for the Blades as they looked to retain their status as Championship leaders.

Iliman Ndiaye then made it 2-0 before another player once linked to Ibrox in Jerry Yates hauled the Seasiders back into the clash with a brace before halftime.

After Blackpool went on to take the lead five minutes after the restart through Aussie midfielder Kenny Dougall there was a calm before the storm, with the game reaching boiling point in the final 15 minutes.

Blackpool duo Marvin Ekpiteta (‘78) and Dominic Thompson (‘81) were shown second yellow cards in quick succession before the match culminated in Norwood’s equaliser.

However at the final whistle a fight broke out on the pitch with ex-Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham eventually rolling around the ground with Shayne Lavery in astonishing scenes.

With both players seeing red, it took the red card count to four and the result means Sheffield United have lost their spot at the top of the Championship after title rivals Burnley thrashed Swansea 4-0.

Ex-Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham was signed from Swindon by Mark Warburton in 2015 and played 143 times for the club before leaving the club after the expiration of his contract in 2020.

Meanwhile, it appears the Ibrox directorate have made their minds up amid much talk surrounding Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s future.
