Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst claims he has the backing of the Ibrox directors as talk continues around the Dutch coach’s future at the club.

The Gers boss has overseen a series of dramatic first-team collapses over the course of his tenure at Rangers with the record-breaking 7-1 defeat to Liverpool heaping on the pressure.

This follows on from woeful 4-0 defeats to Celtic and Ajax this season, with the Rangers boss’ Champions League soundbites also not inspiring a support which is beginning to turn.

There have been highlights from van Bronckhorst’s tenure – the Europa League Final run and the Scottish Cup win amongst them – but the dramatic nature of last season’s Premiership points swing and the nervous collapse seen in several high-profile matches has fans talking.

Not to mention complaints regarding an uninspiring style of play.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst insists he has backing of Rangers directors

Speaking ahead of the match with Motherwell, Giovanni van Bronckhorst insists he has the backing of the Rangers directors and that everyone at the club is in it together.

“It can be a crazy thing when you see the changes of managers,” said van Bronckhorst [Rangers].

“That’s the position we’re in as managers. But I never think of moments like that to be fired. I want to continue my work and put my energy into that.

“What I really like is the backing of my directors. I have a feeling we are all in this together.

”We all work hard to bring success back to this club and that will come with highs and lows. Wednesday was definitely a low for all of us. But I have a feeling that in this club we win together and lose together.

“We will all fight to get back on track and that starts on Sunday. For me, it’s very good to feel that. But I also know that as a manager you have to perform and bring success to the club.

“That’s definitely the case when you are manager of Rangers. In the long-term, I have to perform too and that’s what I want to do.”

This would suggest that the Ibrox boardroom have already made their mind up amid the Giovanni van Bronckhorst sack talk but with good reason.

Not only has van Bronckhorst raised the profile of the club with that Europa League run and Champions League qualification, but he has brought millions of pounds into Rangers too.

But this can always change if things don’t on the park with the Dutchman under heavy scrutiny and needing a response at Fir Park.

Meanwhile, one Rangers star’s Ibrox career is hanging by a thread after yet another devastating injury update.
