Former Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty has lit up English League One with a superb solo goal for new side Hull City.

The boyhood bluenose left Ibrox in the summer to move to the KC Stadium and he showed his class to pick the ball up 30 yards from goal, weave in and out of defenders and into the 18 yard box before finishing with his left foot.

Fans of the English third tier are used to seeing this from Docherty from his time with Shrewsbury Town and he looks to be continuing that fine form with promotion hopefuls Hull City.

The Tigers were 1-0 down against Football League trophy rivals Lincoln before Docherty hauled them back into the match with the game eventually finishing 1-1 at 90 minutes.

However progression to the competition’s quarter-finals wasn’t to be for Hull City who would lose 4-3 on penalties to their League One rivals.

Both Lincoln and Hull are locked in an automatic promotion fight with Hull currently top with 48 points on goal difference with second-place Lincoln having a game in hand.

Doncaster, Portsmouth and Peterborough are also in the mix in a competitive League One season but Gers fans will be hoping Docherty can earn a crack at the Championship next year.

The likeable midfielder left Ibrox for a reported £350k [STV] after a disappointing two-and-a-half years were he really struggled for game-time after the arrival of Steven Gerrard.

However, the midfielder hasn’t closed the door to one day returning to Ibrox should the chance ever present itself in the future.
