Former Rangers winger Daniel Candeias rejoiced on Twitter at the weekend after an important win for Genclerbirligi in their bid to avoid relegation.
A wretched end to 2019 and beginning to 2020 dragged the Ankara-based club back into a basement battle that they had briefly looked to have escaped back in November.
After a 2-0 reverse at home to Trabzonspor last weekend, Candeias took to social media with a defiant message in the face of his new club’s poor form.
Much to the delight of the Portuguese, it appears that the defiance translated onto the pitch on Sunday.
He played the full 90 minutes as Gencler secured a precious win courtesy of a combination of a 76th minute Bogdan Stancu goal and a rare clean sheet, away at Alanyaspor.
After the game, the ex-Ger took to social media to congratulate his teammates.
Bravo boy's 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽great win haydi https://t.co/xYrYhl8RcT

The result sees them rise to 11th in the Turkish Super Lig, five places above the final of three relegation spots. Symbolically, that’s a big boost, although the situation is still precarious.
The bottom half of the table is still extremely tight, and Candeias and co are still only four points from the relegation zone.
Given the lack of consistent performances from those who played on the right for Rangers this season, some fans have expressed their regret at the 31-year-old’s summer departure.
He was an immensely popular figure at Ibrox, due, in the main, to his exceptional work-rate. Yet, his own inconsistencies in the final third have followed him to Turkey.
So far this season, he has just three goals and six assists in 22 appearances, with all of his strikes and two of the assists coming in one game against Antalyaspor back in October.
He’ll be hoping for more tangible contributions in the coming weeks and months, in order to help his side avoid the drop.
