Cammy Palmer has backed up a stunning goal with a Man of the Match performance for a club chasing Rangers’ world record for the number of domestic titles won.

Ex-Rangers reserves skipper, Palmer, has made an impressive start at Linfield since leaving Ibrox in January.

The 20-year-old made his debut last month, before making his first start and scoring his first goal with a long-range strike in a 7-0 thrashing of Carrick Rangers at the weekend.

He retained his place in the starting XI for a fixture against Dungannon Swifts at Windsor Park on Tuesday evening and pulled the strings from midfield, earning the Man of the Match award as the Blues secured a 2-0 win.

Palmer will no doubt be delighted to be making an impact already in the NIFL Premiership and he could be a big player over the remaining months of the season as Linfield look to win their 55th Northern Irish top-flight title.

David Healy’s side are currently top of the table and eight points clear of second-placed Coleraine, but the race is far from over as the Bannsiders have two games in hand.

Even if they do win the league, though, Linfield won’t be content with drawing level with Rangers.

They are looking to go out on their own as the most successful team in world football in terms of league titles won, as part of an ambitious five-year strategic plan published earlier this week.

Palmer is under contract at Windsor Park until the end of next season and he’ll be hoping to win plenty of silverware during his stint in Belfast.

Palmer isn’t the only former Ger impressing in a top-flight league, though, with a popular ex-Ibrox striker on fire after a surprise January transfer.
