Two former Rangers players scored as Kevin Thomson’s Kelty Hearts hammered Albion Rovers 6-1 in League Two on Saturday.

Thomson took over from Barry Ferguson at New Central Park in May, leaving the Rangers B Team Head Coach role to do so.

So far, the risk is paying off as he’s thriving in his first senior managerial role.

Kelty have been top of the fourth tier pretty much all season and after this latest victory, they are seven points ahead of second-placed Forfar with a game in hand.

Thomson was furious in midweek when his side’s clash with Elgin City was called off at late notice amid Storm Barra and his players took out their frustration on Albion Rovers, with two ex-Gers shining.

Jamie Barjonas has recently returned from a wrist injury and he set up the first goal, which was scored by Nathan Austin.

Rovers equalised in the 27th minute but ten minutes later, former Rangers U18s captain Danny Finlayson, who’s on loan at Kelty from St Mirren, put the hosts back in front.

The Fife club stretched away after the interval and Barjonas netted his side’s sixth in the 79th minute to complete the scoring.

A few onlookers were surprised when both Barjonas and Finlayson opted to drop down to League Two to link up with Thomson but they’re getting the chance to play week in week out and if this form continues, it won’t be long before Kelty move up into the third tier.

Elsewhere on Saturday, an on-fire striker scored again but Rangers B were shocked by ten-man East Kilbride.
