Ex-Rangers midfielder Jordan Thompson scores stunning Blackpool goal

It might not have happened at Rangers for Northern Ireland midfielder Jordan Thompson, but he’s leaving a big impression at Blackpool.

The former Manchester United youth midfielder, now 22, joined Rangers under Mark Warburton in 2015 but he’d move to Bloomfield Road after his contract expired three years later.

This weekend, the talented midfielder scored a fine goal, slipping it through the opponent’s legs before producing a fine finish.

The composure, the cheeky nutmeg, the curled finish. It was a stunning strike and further evidence of Thompson’s progress at the League One club.

Thompson’s effort was also the eventual matchwinner in a 2-1 victory over Lincoln.

It’s not the first time he’s caught the eye down south either.

Thompson has played 55 times since joining Blackpool last season, scoring four goals and laying on a further six.

A useful, mobile, creative midfielder with plenty of potential, it’s good to see Thompson finding his feet and a home in England.

At Rangers, chances would’ve no doubt been limited and at the time it was undoubtedly the best thing for Thompson to move on with his career.

That doesn’t mean he hasn’t lost that connection with Rangers or Ibrox either.

Jordan Thompson took to Twitter recently to praise the good form of Ryan Jack, whilst there is a still a strong Rangers contingent at Blackpool.

Rangers keeper Jak Alnwick is on-loan at the club whilst Rangers Academy graduate Ryan Hardie – who was back at Ibrox for the 5-0 hammering of Aberdeen – is the Bloomfield Road club’s number 9.
