Former Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot has had his contract terminated by Kilmarnock as the 35-year-old looks set to re-join St. Mirren.
According to the Daily Record, the Paisley club have offered the UEFA Cup finalist a one-year deal with an option of another come to the end of the season.
It’ll end two years at Rugby Park since Broadfoot joined the Ayshire club back in 2017 from Rotherham United.
A likeable player during his time at Rangers, Broadfoot has somewhat tarnished his reputation amongst supporters for numerous incidents in recent seasons.
The big defender played with Rangers between 2007 and 2012, joining on a free contract from St. Mirren.
A sort of no-nonsense defender who could amble up the right-wing as a full-back when needed, Broadfoot was remembered for his commitment and attitude on the pitch.
But his behaviour when playing Rangers over the last few seasons has left much to be admired.
Kirk Broadfoot appeared to rake his studs down Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos’ heel last season.
It was roundly condemned by voices across the game in Scotland.
Then there was that nonsense incident two seasons ago with Ryan Jack. Broadfoot got Jack sent off after stepping on his toe and then going down like a tonne of bricks when Jack confronted him.
Going by the reports, it won’t be the last time Rangers see him either with the defender set to join St. Mirren.
Let’s hope his approach isn’t quite so grubby in Paisley.
