Aston Villa have appointed Villarreal boss Unai Emery as their new manager as the Premier League club quickly forget about ex-Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.
The former Arsenal manager has signed on at Villa Park as he looks to stabilise the club – which is bankrolled by Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiris – after a difficult spell under Gerrard.
Having managed over 900 games, Unai Emery is regarded as an elite level coach who won three Europa League titles on the bounce with Sevilla and who won five trophies with Paris Saint Germain.
It proves how difficult the competition at the elite level of football is and objectively this is an ambitious appointment by Aston Villa with Emery’s experience in management far outranking that of Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard’s time at Villa Park was up following a 3-0 defeat to Premier League rivals Fulham last week but the club and squad gave an insight into the discontent under the Scouser over the weekend.
Aston Villa roared back into form with a 4-0 thrashing of Brentford which sets things up very nicely for Unai Emery to take the reins on November 1st.
“Aston Villa is delighted to announce the appointment of Unai Emery as the club’s new head coach,” reads a Villa statement.
“A highly experienced top level coach who has managed over 900 games, Unai has also previously managed in the Premier League during a spell with Arsenal, leading the Gunners to a Europa League Final.
“He has also enjoyed notable success at Sevilla and at Paris St-Germain. In Seville, he won three successive Europa League titles between 2013 and 2016 before going on to lift a Ligue 1 championship in France as well as two French Cups, two French League Cups and two Trophees des Champions.”
