Former Rangers playmaker Malik Tillman has been hailed after signing for PSV Eindhoven in their 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Tuesday night.

Rangers are in European action tonight as the Europa League group stage comes to an end.

The Gers either need a result in Spain against Real Betis or need a big favour from Aris Limassol as they take on Sparta Prague.

Rangers fans will have been watching Champions League action this week, waiting for Thursday to arrive, and that may have included watching Malik Tillman in action for PSV Eindhoven.

Tillman spent last season on loan with Rangers, dividing opinion after 12 goals and five assists in 43 appearances for the club.

The 21-year-old was then at the centre of a will-he-won’t-he in terms of staying at Rangers full-time.

Rangers had a purchase option in Tillman’s loan but reports suggested that Bayern paid £1million plus a 10% sell-on clause in order to cancel the permanent option.

That wasn’t the account of events given by Michael Beale though, as he stated that Rangers did agree to buy Tillman but Bayern immediately activated their buy-back clause.

Either way, Bayern kept hold of Tillman and sent him on to PSV, striking a loan with a view to a permanent move worth up to €14million (£12million).

Tillman lined up for PSV against Arsenal – managed by former Rangers man Mikel Arteta – on Tuesday night and really impressed.

PSV boss Peter Bosz delivered a resounding verdict on Tillman’s display, telling Voetbal Primeur that he was ‘scary’ against the Gunners.

“I almost found Tillman scary, so good,” said Bosz. “I really enjoyed him on the bench. He played great, and that’s just nice to watch,” he added.

Voetbal Primeur also rated Tillman at eight out of 10 for his display, branding his performance a ‘masterclass’.

“If Tillman continues to play as he did against Arsenal, PSV will have to transfer fourteen million euros to Bayern Munich tonight. A masterclass from the stylist, who gave one successful through ball after another and played his best game since his arrival,” they wrote.

Rangers seemingly didn’t have much choice over Tillman’s future as Bayern stepped in, but the American appears to be thriving in the Netherlands and could become a ‘what could have been’ case at Ibrox.
