Rangers have announced yet more legends for the clubs Weekend of Legends match at Ibrox – with the inclusion of ex-Celtic striker Robbie Keane turning heads.
The legendary Republic of Ireland striker is certainly a legend of the game but that six-month stint at Parkhead in 2010 for the ex-Leeds, Inter, Liverpool and Spurs striker makes his name stand out.
Playing 146 times for the Irish national team – scoring 68 goals in the process – it’s another big name on the bill but one that’s certainly caught fans by surprise.
Set to take place on Saturday 26th March at 3pm, the Rangers Weekend of Legends match has been arranged during the international break and on behalf of the club’s 150th anniversary.
Robbie Keane joins star-studded line up at Rangers Weekend of Legends
Robbie Keane is just one name on an exciting bill with captain Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Gheorghe Hagi, Roy Makaay and Robert Pires already announced for the World Legends squad.
In the most recent announcement, the likes of Claude Makéléle, Iván Córdoba, Ricardo Carvalho and Predrag Mijatović will be involved as a star-studded line-up prepares to head to Ibrox.
It’s not just World Legends who’ll be involved in the clash either, with a host of Rangers stars of the past set to lock horns with the World XI.
Giovanni van Bronkhorst, Paul Gascoigne, Sasa Papac, Michael Mols, Kris Boyd, Nikica Jelavić, Ronald De Boer and Alan Hutton had previously been announced by the club, with Carlos Cuellar, Pedro Mendes, Lee McCulloch and Jörg Albertz now joining them.
The Rangers side will also be captained by none other than legendary midfielder Barry Ferguson – who recently admitted he wants a return to the club – with Alex McLeish the manager.

It promises to be a special day and a special way to mark the club’s 150th celebrations as some of the biggest names in Rangers and footballing history make the journey to Ibrox.

Speaking of 150th anniversary celebrations, Rangers are planning to wear a changed strip for the visit of Aberdeen at the beginning of March.
