Ex-Celtic boss Neil Lennon was sent packing this season as Rangers claimed another victim in the hunt for 55.

But incredibly the ex-Parkhead gaffer could return to management before we know it with Lennon linked to the recently vacant managerial opening at Premier League Sheffield United.

Current Blades boss Chris Wilder has announced he’s stepping down after almost five years in charge [BBC Scotland].

Lennon’s been linked with the job – which will likely be in the English Championship next season with the Blades 12 points from safety with only 10 games to go – with one report even claiming he’s told the Bramall Lane club he’s “itching” to take over [Yorkshire Live].

Lennon and ex-Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom are the frontrunners for the role, with ex-Barnsley boss Heckingbottom set to take over until the end of the season.

If Heckingbottom can haul Sheffield United back from the brink then Lennon may well be out of luck but if not what a crazy turn of events that could possibly be.

Sheffield United also have something of a Rangers connection in bluenose Scotland striker Oliver McBurnie and ex-Gers midfielder John Fleck.

Both are key players for the Blades and perhaps Lennon might have something to say about their previous Rangers-related antics.

Ibrox fans have previously lauded the Gers pair for a “staunch” on-field act which might not go down so well with someone like Lennon.
