Rangers fans have lauded John Fleck and Oli McBurnie for refusing to join the Sheffield United huddle ahead of their Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday.

Pre-match huddles are traditional at Celtic and as a result, the gesture is shunned by many with connections to Rangers.

Former Gers midfielder Greg Docherty opted against joining Shrewsbury Town’s huddle whilst on loan at the EFL League One club in 2019 and the Fleck and McBurnie did the same ahead of a televised Premier League fixture at Bramall Lane.

Glasgow-born Fleck began his footballing career at Rangers and made 55 appearances for the first-team after graduating from the Academy.

Meanwhile, Scotland striker McBurnie has never played for the Gers but supports the club vocally on social media platforms.

The duo’s decision to stand upright during the huddle went down extremely well with fellow Bears on Twitter.

Here’s a selection of reactions:

Both players played the full 90 minutes against Chelsea but were unable to prevent the Blades slipping to a 2-1 defeat.

Chris Wilder’s side are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and given that they are a whopping 12 points from safety, look near certain to be relegated.

Rangers fans have also been full of praise for a current first-team star following his passionate post-match interview at Hamilton on Sunday.
