Championship club Preston North End are accused of “haggling” over Rangers star Scott Wright as the winger is linked with a £2m move to Saudi Arabia.

Rangers insiders Heart & Hand were discussing the situation of Scott Wright on their Daily Update [04/07] as the club look to begin shipping squad players out of the team.

And amid reports that Preston saw two bids fail for Scott Wright earlier in the window, there are murmurs that the English Championship side retain an interest.

However, as explained by Heart & Hand host David Edgar, there is a suggestion from within Rangers that the English outfit are playing hardball when it comes to the 25-year-old Ibrox attacker.

“Scott Wright of course has been linked with Preston for a number of weeks now,” said Edgar.

“Preston are haggling about the fee on that but Rangers are holding firm and he looks as though he will be leaving the club this summer.”

Scott Wright linked with Saudi move

It’s a position that Preston may well now rue however, with Scott Wright being linked to Saudi Arabia and a link-up with the man who brought him to Ibrox.

The Daily Record are reporting that Steven Gerrard – who has just been appointed at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq – is eyeing a £2m move to bring Scott Wright to the Middle East.

Gerrard brought Scott Wright to Rangers in January 2021, initially signing a pre-contract with the ex-Aberdeen winger before negotiating a deal with the Dons to bring the move forward.

This included bringing forward a loan-to-buy deal for Ross McCrorie – who was on loan at Pittodrie that season – and who has now reportedly banked Rangers a tidy sell-on profit this summer.

According to journalist Scott Burns, Rangers would also have to part with a sell-on free percentage to Aberdeen should any Scott Wright links to Saudi Arabia be realised.

Scott Wright has made 84 appearances for Rangers, scoring eight goals and laying on seven assists, with the winger one of five first-teamers linked with an exit this summer.
