Former Liverpool and Scotland star Don Hutchison has described Steven Gerrard as being his “fave” candidate for the vacant Newcastle United job.
The 26-times-capped midfielder was making the comments on Twitter in wake of the news that manager Rafa Benitez is to leave the Tyneside club.
And whilst Rangers fans might sympathise with Newcastle United fans over Mike Ashley, there’s no way they’ll even humour talk of Steven Gerrard moving to the Premier League
It’s not the first talk of Steven Gerrard jumping ship from Ibrox this summer.
Whilst there’s no official suggestion Newcastle are interested in the player, there’s been plenty of links to Derby County.
With Frank Lampard being linked with a move to Chelsea [BBC Sport], the Championship outfit was said to be readying a bumper offer for the former England captain.
But Steven Gerrard has been incredibly quick to reiterate his commitment to Ibrox [Sky Sports News].
“There was something missing but Rangers were the right fit and had the right feel,” Gerrard told Sky Sports News.
“I didn’t take the decision lightly and it’s a privilege to be the manager here.
“That hasn’t changed and I’m really looking forward to season two.”

So whilst former West Ham, Sheffield United, Everton, Sunderland, Millwall and Coventry man Don Hutchison might want him at Newcastle, Steven Gerrard is focused on Rangers.
And it looks like it’s staying that way.
Maybe Don Hutchison’s second choice of former Rangers star Rino Gattuso could take up the St. James’ Park mantle?
