Former Rangers striker Jason Cummings is on fire after being handed a chance to revive his career at SPFL Championship club Dundee.

Cummings spent time on loan at Ibrox from Nottingham Forest in 2018, scoring six goals and notching one assist from 18 appearances in all competitions, with the highlight of his spell a Scottish Cup quarter-final hat-trick against Falkirk.

The 25-year-old wasn’t every Rangers fan’s cup of tea, but he undoubtedly has talent and he’s in excellent form following a recent return to Scottish football.

After falling out of favour at EFL League One club Shrewsbury Town, Cummings joined the Dee on a one-and-a-half-year deal during the January transfer window.

He made his first appearance off the bench in a defeat to Raith Rovers just a few days later but, since then, he’s been in the starting XI and finding the back of the net.

The former Ger scored his first Dundee goal in a 3-2 defeat to Queen of the South, before netting in a 2-2 draw at Greenock Morton the following weekend.

Cummings’ February was productive and his March has started in a similar fashion, as he scored what would turn out to be a crucial goal in a home fixture against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Tuesday night.

After Max Anderson had opened the scoring for the hosts, the forward added a second on the stroke of the interval, ensuring that although Nikolay Todorov would pull one back for the opposition in the second half, James McPake’s side still took all three points.

It was a much-needed first win in five for Dundee, who are fourth in the table and just three points behind second-placed Raith.

If they are to secure promotion at the end of the season, it looks as though Cummings will be the key.
