Back in January there was a scenario where Benfica left back David Jurasek wound up at Rangers.
The Ibrox side were heavily linked with a whole host of left-back options amid mounting rumours surrounding Ridvan Yilmaz at Ibrox.
As things transpired the Turkish international would remain at Rangers amid stiff interest from Galatasaray – and aren’t the Gers glad he did – with David Jurasek eventually moving on loan to Hoffenheim.
But given the circumstances since the January transfer window, did Rangers dodge a bullet by not moving for the Czech international star?
Did Rangers dodge David Jurasek bullet?
In short, probably. That’s if Rangers were ever interested.
The links to David Jurasek – who had cost Benfica around £12m in the summer when he signed from Slavia Prague – disappeared about as quickly as they gathered moss.
Using friendly journalists to shoot down the story, if Rangers were interested in any left-back this January it was Brazilian option Jefte.
But after a move for the APOEL star broke down, and Galatasaray failed to meet Rangers’ demands over Ridvan Yilmaz, a proposed winter of transition passed by with the status quo intact.
Benfica left-back would’ve missed Europa League clash
David Jurasek instead moved to Hoffenheim and since he’s been there, has struggled to make an impression. Just like he did in Portugal.
Jurasek is yet to start a match for Hoffenheim but has come off the bench in the last three matches for the German side.
It follows a disappointing first six months with Benfica, where the Czech international left-back, 23, was restricted to only six league games for the club.

Rangers too have been enjoying the emergence of Ridvan Yilmaz, who has firmly gone on to make the left-back berth his own in front of Borna Barisic.
With Rangers having also drawn Benfica in the Europa League Round of 16, it means that had Ridvan Yilmaz moved on and Jurasek been signed to replace, he wouldn’t be involved in the game.
It all points to Rangers being happy things landed how they did in January although with Borna Barisic out of contract in the summer, perhaps change is coming at left-back soon.
