Rangers fans have been sending their best wishes to legendary former Ibrox winger Davie Wilson who will be retiring from his trips to watch the Gers after a dementia diagnosis.

The Wilson Family announced that the former Ibrox star would be taking a step back from the stadium due to the health issues in a message this morning.

“The Wilson Family would like to announce that due to ongoing Alzheimer’s and dementia issues, Rangers legend, Davie Wilson, has now retired from attending Ibrox on match days to watch his beloved Rangers,” reads a statement.

“He was thrilled to see the Gers win their 55th league titles and wishes his team all the very best in the forthcoming season.”

Davie Wilson, 82, remained a regular at Ibrox and in corporate and hospitality suites and this news has been felt by the entire Gers community.

A Scottish football Hall of Famer, Wilson won eleven major honours for the Ibrox club between 1956 and 1967 and helped Rangers reach the European Cup semi final in 1960 and the 1961 European Cup Winners’ Cup Final, which the Gers lost to Fiorentina.

Also winning 22 caps for Scotland, Davie scored 10 goals for his country, including once in a 2-0 Scotland win over England at Hampden in 1962.

Meanwhile, one Ibrox star of the present day has been shining on the pitch as an Ibrox opportunity surely beckons for this Italian-born Ger.
