Darren Bent bewildered by UEFA's Rangers Slavia calls, Gary Lineker and Ian Wright also fume

Darren Bent is one of several prominent English pundits to question the outcome of a UEFA investigation into high-profile incidents during Rangers’ Europa League Last 16 second-leg clash with Slavia Prague at Ibrox in March.

Slavia defender Ondrej Kudela was found guilty of racially abusing Glen Kamara and has received a 10-match ban, but Kamara also picked up a suspension of his own (three matches) for his part in an incident in the tunnel after the game.

Rangers have since stated that they approve of Kudela’s punishment, although they amended their initial response after supporters pointed out that ten matches is actually the minimum ban for an offence of this nature.

However, the club have stated their intention to appeal the suspensions given to Kamara and Kemar Roofe (four matches for a dangerous challenge), which they feel are ‘severe’ [Rangers.co.uk].

Many pundits have since had their say on UEFA’s verdicts, with the decision to punish Kamara bewildering former England international and current talkSPORT regular, Darren Bent.

‘Can someone tell me why Glen Kamara has been banned for 3 games after getting racially abused,’ he wrote on Twitter.

Fellow former England internationals and prominent pundits, Ian Wright and Gary Lineker, both also provided reactions on social media.

‘I’m guilty of this kind [of] thinking as well,’ wrote Wright on Twitter. ‘So many times you think to yourself “this is a chance for them to send a message” or “this is a chance for them to show how seriously they take it” Only to be disappointed time and time again.”

While Lineker wrote: “Banned for racism. Banned for reacting to being racially abused. Will they ever get it completely right?”

Here’s how Rangers fans and Kamara’s lawyer responded to the news
