Derek McInnes’ name has been mentioned once again with regard to the Rangers job, given how well he is doing at Hearts.

Despite moving to the Tynecastle outfit in May, he has managed to transform their fortunes.

They now find themselves five points clear at the top of the table, and could extend their lead over Rangers to eight points if they win at Ibrox on Sunday.

Keith Jackson remains unsure of Danny Rohl’s future at Rangers

Keith Jackson admitted that he would not rule out McInnes potentially being the new Gers boss in case he guides Hearts to the title.

Danny Rohl has put the Ibrox outfit in a title race, something that seemed unthinkable when he replaced Russell Martin.

However, his team selection in the 1-1 draw against Motherwell has led to many questioning his ability to win the SPFL title.

Despite that result, Daily Record journalist Scott McDermott is certain that he will be in charge of the Light Blues next season.

McDermott told Hotline Live: “No matter what happens, Danny Rohl will be the Rangers manager at the start of next season.”

However, Jackson does not think it is set in stone and believes that the Gers fans are angry with Rohl’s team selection.

He argued: “But I’m picking up vibes from Rangers fans that are really angry with the team selection at Fir Park. The biggest Achilles heel has been the lack of invention and creative players in the final third.”

Will Andrew Cavenagh stick with Danny Rohl?

Andrew Cavenagh will be aware of the turnaround in fortunes that have come with Rohl’s appointment.

He will be the first to admit that the club got it wrong with Russell Martin, and the German has proven why he could take Rangers to the next level.

The hierarchy also backed him in January with four new signings, so it is clear that the squad is being built for Rohl.

To abandon that and bring in another manager would make little sense, especially if there are tangible signs of progress.

A win against Hearts on Sunday gets the lead down to two points, and if that had been told to the owners back in September, they would take it, no questions asked.

While McInnes is an impressive manager, he is not expected to be in charge of Rangers at the start of next season.
