Former Celtic striker Charlie Nicholas has been talking down the value of Rangers star Alfredo Morelos, saying clubs would need to be “desperate” to pay £40m for him.

The latest voice in the raging-Celtic-supporters-against-Rangers-players-being-valued-more-than-a-fiver club, Nicholas bemoans all the talk of Morelos going for mega-money.

Tittering like a Celtic da three cans of lager deep after having just watched Morelos score a double against Feyenoord, there’s a sense of outrage to the pundit’s comments.

“Rangers can dream up whatever number they like for Alfredo Morelos,” said Nicholas [the Express, as quoted by the Daily Record].

“Dave King has said he won’t sell him for £40million in January. Well, if Morelos is worth that then Celtic must be thinking Odsonne Edouard is worth £50m.

“We can all come up with numbers but unless a club is genuinely interested and comes up with a realistic bid then it means nothing.

“The bottom line is that Gers are not going to get anyone to bid anywhere near that.

“It would need to be a team that is really, really desperate.

“Morelos has been linked with the likes of Crystal Palace and Aston Villa but they won’t spend more than £25m on a centre-forward.

“Yes, Rangers can point to Morelos’ goals. He has done well domestically outside of the Celtic games and he has scored goals in Europe, but it has been in the Europa League, not the Champions League.

“If a bid was to come in around the £25m mark then there would be a serious debate in the Ibrox boardroom rather than the £40m that has been quoted.

“Edouard has delivered in the Old Firm derbies, whereas Morelos hasn’t. That has been the difference a lot of the time.”

Wonderful, wonderful stuff from Charlie.

Ignoring the fact that the Sky Sports pundit has so blatantly missed the point – that Rangers won’t accept anything for Morelos no matter the fee – you can feel the seethe in the comments.

How dare Rangers demand anything over the change down the back of the couch for one of their players?

It makes you wonder what the former Arsenal striker would say about Chris Sutton’s £20m valuation of Leigh Griffiths [Daily Record].

That’s how seriously Rangers fans should take any ex-Celtic star commenting on the transfers and finances of the Ibrox club.
