Steven Gerrard is under pressure at Al-Ettifaq as links with a return to Rangers continue to grow.

It’s been a difficult start to the season for Gerrard as the Saudi Pro League club are currently 11th in the league table and have lost four of their first nine league games.

The former Rangers boss departed the Ibrox club for Aston Villa in 2021 but was ultimately sacked in 2022 after only 11 months in charge.

On July 2023, he made the switch to the Saudi Pro League originally on a two-year deal but signed a contract extension until 2027.

Philippe Clement is under pressure at Ibrox and there has been calls for the Belgian to be sacked as they’re nine points behind rivals Celtic and Aberdeen.

Many of the Rangers faithful would welcome the Liverpool legend back, despite how he left the club.

What did Craig Moore say about Gerrard’s possible return?

The manner in which Gerrard left the club came as a surprise to the support.

Many still hold the former midfielder in high regard, but some others will struggle to forgive him.

Speaking on GoRadio, Moore was asked if the fans would be willing to accept Gerrard returning to Ibrox.

“I think it would be a mixed bag. I really think it would really be 50/50.

“Yes, he had his success, and the biggest success for the Rangers fans was to stop [Celtic’s] ten in a row but it took him three seasons.

“Look John [Hartson], it’s a really good question and I have been asked by a few people and my general feeling is, speaking to people and therefore you do get a flavour, it’s 50/50 in regards to Steven Gerrard.”

Steven Gerrard’s impressive Ibrox record could tempt Rangers into change

Gerrard arrived as manager in 2018 with the objective of rebuilding the club and stopping Celtic’s ten in a row.

Rangers was his first managerial job and it was seen as a risk at the time but the fact he is a superstar of football – the fan base got on board straight away.

Steven Gerrard Rangers record:

There were many iconic European nights under his management making the last 16 of the Europa League on back-to-back occasions and most notably defeating SC Braga at home 3-2 after being 2-0 down.

Gerrard’s team won the Scottish Premiership for the first time in ten years in the 2020/2021 season going unbeaten throughout the league campaign.

The 44-year-old will be regarded as a legend by some for delivering the club’s 55th title but others may not welcome him back with open arms.
