As Rangers face up to the possibility of having two first-team midfielders out for the medium term, will Rangers need to re-enter the transfer market early this January?
The Gers are awaiting the results of an ankle scan concerning Scott Arfield who worryingly hobbled off the field of play just minutes after coming on in the 1-0 Boxing Day win over Hibs.
Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister admitted the club will have to be “patient” with Ibrox star Ryan Jack whose been scarcely seen since November [Rangers].
The idea that the Gers will be going into a hectic winter schedule without these two stand-out stalwarts is a daunting one for the club’s supporters.
Scott Arfield offers goals, invention and energy in midfield, whilst his tactical and defensive discipline have offered great balance to Steven Gerrard’s side this season.
Ryan Jack’s industry and discipline in the middle of the park has been a miss for Rangers in recent weeks with the Scotland international one of the first names on the club’s team sheet.
Whilst it’s not clear the full extent of the injuries it leaves Rangers short in midfield heading into an incredibly pivotal point of the season.
Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo and Bongani Zungu will need to hold the fort but should anyone of these players drop out Rangers begin to look thin in the middle of the pitch.
Youngsters Jamie Barjonas and Ciaran Dickson are next in line, whilst the likes of Ianis Hagi may be asked to drop back into the middle of the park.
But with these two hardworking first-teamers out of the park, Rangers’ hand may well be forced early on the transfer market as they look to maintain a title challenge beyond Christmas.

Given the team has fallen apart in the second half of the campaign in both of Steven Gerrard’s seasons in charge, the Ibrox gaffer will be looking to avoid any excuses going into 2021.
Could the Gers look to a midfielder who was heavily linked earlier in the year as he pops up at training with an established English second-tier side?
