Back when Pedro Caixinha was in charge, Rangers were reportedly looking at a range of player’s from the Portuguese manager’s home country. Pedro Rebocho was reportedly one of these players.
Portuguese news outlet A Bola claimed Rangers wanted the left back way back in 2017. But even if Rangers were interested in the former Moreirense wingback, Rebocho eventually moved to Ligue 1 Guingamp.
The former Benfica player signed a three-year deal with the French outfit. With just over a year remaining on it, could Rangers return for the 24-year-old left back?
Pedro Rebocho has represented Portugal at a range of youth levels, all the way up to U21. An exciting left-back option, Rebocho would add balance, intelligence and attacking threat down this side of the pitch. He can play a little too.
Rangers have toiled at left back for much of the season. Croatian international Borna Barisic has struggled to settle and spent much of the season injured.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been vocal about his frustrations concerning the player [originally Daily Record]. Earlier comments from Gerrard about certain signings not living up to expectations also sounded like a warning shot at the likes of Barisic.
Andy Halliday, whilst at times an able deputy, doesn’t seem like the long-term solution in the position. Besides, he’s naturally a midfielder.
In Pedro Rebocho, Rangers would have a hard-working, direct, creative full-back who can provide balance on the left with James Tavernier on the right.
The club could certainly do worse than the player – who also moonlights as a Portuguese rapper called stiffwrist.
