Glen Kamara is the talk of Ibrox at the minute, and not without good reason.
The Finnish international’s recent performances have had some fans salivating at his potential. He even notched his first goal for the club in the 4-0 win over Dundee.
But with a physical, no-nonsense battle on the horizon in the North East, will Gerrard resort to type with another young talent for the match against Aberdeen?
Ross McCrorie has generally been the preferred option in these physical matches. Against Celtic in December and Aberdeen last month the youngster was superb.
An energetic presence, he puts out fires all over the pitch and loves crashing into challenges. It’s incredible to think he’s still only 20.
Kamara, for all his class, composure and poise, fulfils a different role. Glen Kamara too is tasked with winning the ball back, but he’s also charged with finding a pass afterwards. He’s a player who acts as a pivot, whereas McCrorie is a direct, imposing presence.
All will become clear in the next 24 hours or so but it’s a good dilemma for Steven Gerrard to have. Both are hungry young players, and you could see both doing a job up in Aberdeen.
