Connor Barron has Barry Ferguson making unseen claim as Rangers midfielder impresses against Celtic

Rangers will look to take the next steps towards a fully functioning player trading model this summer with another rebuild.

Nils Koppen has addressed signing more Scottish players and there is a reason why SPFL talent has consistently played a part in Rangers’ success.

There is a lot to be said for those who understand the demands of the game in Scotland with the stereotypical physicality and energy that comes with them.

Players are no longer being signed by whoever is the Rangers manager, instead, it will be Koppen and Kevin Thelwell as the new sporting director who will build the team.

It is a Rangers squad that needs a lot of work, but will Connor Barron have a key part to play after a progressive debut season at Ibrox.

Barry Ferguson backs Connor Barron to make Rangers impact

After a solid Old Firm display, Barry Ferguson was asked about the performance of the Scotland youth cap after being brought back into the starting XI:

“Yeah, Connor was really good. You know what you’re going to get off Connor in terms of his attitude. He’ll get about the pitch. It’s something that since I’ve come in we’ve been working on,” said Ferguson.

“I think he’s a lot better on the ball than people give him credit for. We’re starting to see signs of that on the training ground.

“He’s been in and out of the team. I know the wee man will be disappointed at times, but that’s just part of football. But I thought today alongside Nico, he was really good.”

What does the future hold for Barron?

Barron was thrown in at the deepend when he first arrived at Rangers, especially after Nicolas Raskin got injured in pre-season.

The 22-year old has looked much better alongside Raskin and Mohamed Diomande, where he can put his energy and running power to good use whilst letting the other two do more of the playmaking.

He has a great opportunity to learn under Ferguson and if he picks up one or two good habits then it will stand him in good stead.

Barron might not be on the level of Ferguson, however, he doesn’t need to be.

There is nothing wrong with being a good squad player capable of doing a job when they are called upon or if there is a change in tactics, especially when they still have the potential to improve.
