The Rangers manager hunt goes on as the Ibrox side take their time identifying the man to take the club forward into a new era.

With Rangers weeks away from a US buyout, the club now have an executive structure in place between CEO Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell.

This should help support the next Rangers manager in a way that the club could not support Philippe Clement, who was always up against it to have the desired impact at Ibrox.

But as Rangers mull over who should be next in the Ibrox dugout, one of the Belgian’s best mates in football has reportedly been in discussions with the powers that be in Govan.

Brian Priske a ‘contender’ to become Rangers manager

According to BBC Sport, Rangers have held discussions with Danish manager Brian Priske over the vacant managerial role at Ibrox.

Nick Mashiter and Simon Stone are reporting that 48-year-old Priske is a ‘contender’ to take over at Ibrox after holding preliminary talks.

Priske – who has been out of work since being sacked at Feyenoord back in February 2025 – has top-level experience as a manager in Denmark, Belgium, Czechia and the Netherlands.

The coach guided FC Midtjylland to the Danish Superliga in 19/20 and won two Czech First League titles (22/23, 23/24) and a Czech Cup (23/24) with Sparta Prague.

Whilst the 21/22 season at Royal Antwerp didn’t turn up any trophies, Priske did win the Johan Cruyff Shield during his brief stint at Feyenoord this season.

Philippe Clement good friends with ‘football addict’ Brian Priske

Rangers fans might remember Brian Priske from his time with Sparta Prague, where the Danish coach faced the Ibrox side home and away in the Europa League.

In the 23/24 campaign, before this season’s revamped League Phase, Rangers defeated Priske’s Sparta Prague 2-1 at home before playing out a 0-0 draw in the Czech capital.

Rangers fans might also remember Philippe Clement’s glowing comments about Brian Priske heading into the match too, with the Belgian admitting his former Club Brugge teammate is still one of his best friends in football.

Priske is a former central defender, spending the bulk of his career in Denmark but also having stints in Belgium with Genk and Club Brugge either side of a spell with Portsmouth in England.

It was in those two years in Brugge between 2006 and 2008 where Priske played alongside Clement, winning the Belgian Cup in 2007, and the then Rangers manager paid tribute to his old teammate back in 2023.

“We know each other already a long time,” said Philippe Clement. “Brian (Priske) was before playing in Genk, my old club.

“After he came to Brugge we played together. We kept in touch the years after because we had a good relationship in the club.

“Later on he became also a coach in Belgium in Antwerp so I know already a long time.

“He’s a really, really nice person. He’s also a football addict so that’s a good way to spend good evenings together, that we can talk about football.

“I’m happy he said good things about me, he knows bad things about me also!

“It’s going to be great to see each other again because it’s been a while now but we’re both also people that love each other before and after the game, during the game it will be a little bit less.”
