Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has immediately made mention of the Parkhead side’s European Cup triumph in 1967 when asked about Rangers’ Europa League success this season.
The Australian coach appears to be settling into life at Parkhead just fine and couldn’t resist trying to take the shine off Rangers’ success with mention of the European Cup win in Lisbon.

This was over 50 years ago yet – like England fans crying over the World Cup – we hear nothing but romanticised nonsense about Celtic’s victory all those years ago.
Whilst undoubtedly valid, the notion that it is in anyway comparable with Rangers’ run to the Europa League semi-finals in 2022 is genuinely laughable and I’m not going to even try do it here.
But Ange Postecoglou certainly did as he covered up his own European shortcomings with the most Celtic response imaginable to Rangers’ Europa League success.
Salty, indulgent and in many ways classless, the big man just couldn’t resist.
Classless Ange Postecoglou in salty Celtic response to Rangers European run
“Rangers have done very well and Giovanni has done a great job in getting them to the semi-finals,” the Australian says [BBC Sport].
“I guess, from their perspective, they are still in the tie and have an opportunity to get to a final, which is great.
“But, if you want evidence of how well Scottish clubs can do in Europe, there’s a trophy I can show you just down the road here.”
The last time Celtic won a European knockout round tie, Peter Andre was number one in the charts and FC Porto were en route to becoming European champions.
It’s been 18 years since Celtic got further than the first knockout round and yet here is the Celtic manager, covering up his own shortcomings, by mentioning a trophy won during a different era of football altogether.

Rangers have done monumentally well to reach the Europa League semi-finals and let’s hope that the Ibrox club can reach the final.
But if the comments of Ange Postecoglou are anything to go by, there’s a club green with envy on the other side of Glasgow.
