Charlie Nicholas sides with Rangers following ridiculous Hartson claim

In the wake of John Hartson’s ridiculous Scottish Premiership title comments, Charlie Nicholas has surprisingly sided with Rangers, as quoted by the Daily Record.

Speaking recently on Sportsound, as quoted by BBC Sport, Hartson suggested that Rangers should concede the top-flight title to their arch-rivals, despite Celtic having not yet mathematically won the league.

The comments were ridiculed by Bears on social media and it seems that they were too far fetched even for former Hoops striker, Nicholas, to agree with.

“John Hartson said Rangers would get a lot of credit if they were to concede the title to Celtic,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record. “From who?”

“There is no chance of Rangers getting praise from anywhere. Their own fans would be up in arms.

“Rangers can’t concede the title, and why should they?  As I have said all along, Celtic need to win it and hopefully, we will get back playing and get everything decided on the pitch.”

Verdict

Opinion in this debate has, in the main, been framed around connections to either Old Firm club.

In general, Celtic staff and ex-players have argued that because they hold a sizeable lead, they deserve the title if no more matches are possible.

Contrastingly, Rangers and those with Gers leans are insisting that no titles should be handed out in the case of an incomplete season.

Within that context, it’s refreshing to see Nicholas break rank and take his allegiances out of it. He’s done his fair share of criticising when it’s come to Rangers in recent seasons, but he’s very much in agreement with Bears here.

Football is set to be very much on the backburner for the foreseeable, though, with the efforts of many currently focused on managing the global health crisis.
