Everyone’s favourite pundit John Hartson has been back on our airwaves pleading with Rangers to concede the title to Celtic so we can all finally get on with our lives.

The former forward is a barrel of laughs and Rangers fans everywhere are more entertained by the cringeworthy nature of Harston’s punditry that they are generally upset by it.

Well, unless he’s making up stories about Alfredo Morelos flipping a middle finger at Motherwell fans.

The notion Rangers would even remotely entertain such a suggestion is bonkers but John knows that and you get the impression the big man is just desperately trying to stir the pot.

Well I hope he is, for his sake at least.

A former Celtic striker, the Welshman is a regular on radio and TV shows singing the praises of his blessed Parkhead charges.

Speaking on Sportsound, there are no doubts in Hartson’s mind Celtic should be awarded a title they have not yet earned because, well, because they’re Celtic. Quelle surprise.

“Rangers would come away with an awful lot of credit if they were to say ‘you have been worthy champions, you have a massive lead’,” said Hartson [BBC Sport].

“I can honestly say I’d be saying exactly the same if Rangers had the lead. Celtic have got to probably lose five of their last eight games to be overtaken. Let’s be realistic, that isn’t going to happen.

“It would be an incredible thing to do for Rangers, but like everyone else I don’t expect them to

“It would be a commendable thing to do, but I’m not naive.”

Excusing the fact the surrender the title stuff is utter nonsense, the suggestion Celtic need to lose five games is also complete rubbish as well.

Celtic currently sit 13 points clear of Rangers but the Ibrox side have a game in hand and still need to play the Parkhead club twice.

Should Rangers win that game and beat Celtic on both occasions – which is not outwith the realms of possibility – the lead is cut to four.

It would then only take Celtic falling to a defeat and a draw for Rangers to go top, granted Steven Gerrard’s side would need to win their games too.

That’s three defeats and a draw John, with two matches against Rangers. It’s not five defeats against the likes of Hamilton and St. Mirren.

Rangers fans have been gunning for Hartson on Twitter in the aftermath of his comments:
