Talismanic Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has tested positive for Covid-19 just under two weeks before they are due to play Rangers at Celtic Park.

The French U21 striker has been sent home from international duty and will now undergo a period of self-isolation and depending on his recovery, will be a major doubt for the match.

Edouard will undergo a period of self-isolation for ten days which depending on whether or not that begins yesterday or today, will take him to the 16th or 17th of October.

Rangers are scheduled to play Celtic on Saturday the 17th of October at 12:30pm and there will also be a worry about the player’s general fitness amid catching the virus.

If Edouard – who has struggled for form this season – is set to miss the match it will come as a major blow for Celtic who could be without Swiss forward Albian Ajeti for the game.

Their £5m summer signing faces a race against time to be fit for the game after picking up a hamstring knock for the Parkhead club.

Celtic winger James Forrest is also set to miss the match after the player was ruled out for four to six weeks after fracturing his ankle.

Rangers are not without their own injury worries going into the game but short-term absentees Kemar Roofe and Joe Aribo have been pictured back in the gym training.

Ryan Jack and Brandon Barker have return to the squad but Croatian centre-back Nikola Katic is a long-term absentee after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.
