Celtic are in talks with controversial Manchester United legend Roy Keane over becoming the club’s next manager as Rangers threaten to dominate the Scottish game.
Up until now, Keane talk has largely stemmed from rumours, dubious reports, and stories regarding the favourites for the role, but according to the Daily Mail, Keane is in talks with Celtic.
The Irish midfielder spent a short spell at Celtic in season 05/06 where he ended his career after 12 trophy-laden years at Manchester United.
During that time, Keane came face-to-face with now Rangers boss Steven Gerrard during the Anfield legend’s time at Liverpool.
The prospect of Keane moving up north to reignite this rivalry might be an exciting one for the press and media but by and large links to Keane have been taken badly by the Celtic support.
In contrast, Rangers fans have embraced the idea with Celtic looking for someone traditionally linked to the club rather than an individual famed for their coaching expertise.
Reports claim Keane was previously offered the job before Ronny Deila took charge at Parkhead in 2014 with Man City youth coach Enzo Maresca and ex-Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder also said to be “interested”.
Whatever happens, Rangers fans will keep a close eye on the Parkhead club’s progress in their hunt for a new manager as the Gers look to maintain their dominance on the Scottish game.
Rangers are on track for an unbeaten season whilst the club has secured the title at the earliest point of a season chronologically since the early 1900s.
For many Gers fans, Keane would be an ideal choice and a managerial signing for our Old Firm rivals.
