Cardiff City fans plead with ex Rangers loanee Sheyi Ojo to sign permanent contract

Cardiff City fans have pleaded with Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo, who spent the 2019/20 season at Rangers, to sign a permanent contract with the club.

Ojo showed plenty of promise in the early stages of his loan stint at Ibrox, scoring four times in his first seven appearances in all competitions and later netting a spectacular winner against Feyenoord in the Europa League group stages.

However, his form dropped off considerably from there. He failed to net again in Light Blue and by the time the season was halted in March, he was very much out of favour.

Ultimately, the Gers opted against pursuing a permanent deal and the winger returned to Anfield in the summer.

There was never likely to be room for him in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad, though, and that proved to be the case as he headed out for a sixth loan spell of his career before the start of the season, joining EFL Championship side Cardiff City.

The 23-year-old quickly established himself in the Cardiff team and has contributed fairly regularly, racking up five goals and six assists in 28 appearances.

His latest strike was the opening goal in the Bluebirds’ 2-1 win at Rotherham on Tuesday night.

With the hosts caught out at the back after piling too many players forward, Ojo received the ball close to the halfway line and sprinted clear before keeping his cool in a one-on-one situation and sliding a finish into the bottom left corner.

The victory left Mick McCarthy’s side eleventh in the table and when Ojo tweeted to celebrate the result and goal, plenty of Cardiff fans took the opportunity to urge him to sign a permanent deal with their club.
