Can Rangers fans really write propsed signing Greg Stewart off?

As Rangers seemingly edge ever closer to the signature of Greg Stewart, the move has been met with trepidation by some fans.
You can perhaps see why. Stewart is 29, his most recent move was a loan spell with Aberdeen, and he struggled to cut it with Birmingham City in the English Championship.
For many, the player doesn’t seem good enough on paper. But is it fair to write Stewart off before he’s even kicked a ball?

Well, we can’t possibly say he ever will until the club themselves confirm it. Both Sky Sports and the Daily Record claim the deal is done, whilst he was released by Birmingham City last week. Steven Gerrard has also claimed the club “admire” Stewart [Daily Record].
The fact he was released means should Rangers get this one over the line, the player joins on a free. It’s a low-risk move. And what’s more, it could potentially bring high rewards.
Stewart was electric up in Scotland during his time at Dundee. For a struggling side, he produced two strong goalscoring seasons, earning him two Player’s Player of the Year shortlistings on the bounce as well as the move to Birmingham in 2016.
The move down south appears to have really knocked the player’s confidence. But it’s not all entirely his fault as managerial changes at St. Andrews would’ve had an impact.

In the first half of this season, he looked like his old self. He was scoring regularly for Kilmarnock and beginning to really influence matches.
Rangers and Steven Gerrard clearly believe they can get this out of Greg Stewart on a regular basis. Why else would they have signed him?
And should Stewart eventually be unveiled by the club, why write him off before he’s even kicked a ball?
