Can Dominic Solanke replace Alfredo Morelos in the short term?

Much of the build up to tomorrow’s Old Firm has centred around Alfredo Morelos and comments he made about his future this week. Naturally, this has had people asking who can replace such a vital player to Rangers if he is to leave in January.

We’d probably rather leave these conversations till after tomorrow’s crunch match.

But should the lethal Colombian move on, have Rangers been eyeing up a readymade replacement all season?

Dominic Solanke might not be a long term solution to fill the gaping hole left by Morelos. But he’d certainly plug it for a short while.

If we’re still looking to compete on a few fronts in February, we’ll need a striker. More than that, we need a striker who we can rely on to score goals.

If Morelos goes we lose our talismanic goalscorer. Despite the fact Solanke remains largely untested, you get the feeling he’d revel in the opportunity up in Scotland.

The England U21 striker has struggled to breakthrough into a rampant Liverpool team and reports suggest he is ready to be sent out on loan.

With talk of Premier League interest in Solanke’s signature, Rangers might have a battle on their hands to win him round to coming to Ibrox.

But if they can it’d certainly soften the blow of Morelos’ departure.
