Cambuslang Rangers – affectionately known as the Wee Gers due to links with the big team from Glasgow – have been crowned Champions of their division.
Also known as the Camby, the club won the West of Scotland League Conference B title after beating second-place Gartcairn 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
It’s been a remarkable season for the club so far, with Cambuslang Rangers netting over 100 goals this season and winning 23 of their 26 matches played to date.
This is their first title win for five years and manager Billy Campbell has paid tribute to his “exceptional” side.
Cambuslang Rangers boss “chuffed” with title win
“It feels brilliant to be champions. I’ve been explaining to the guys over the last couple of weeks that it’s not as easy as everybody says it is, to ‘just’ go out and win a certain amount of points, so to actually get it over the line is brilliant,” said Campbell [Daily Record].
“We made it clear that the strategy was the same, we didn’t want them going out and doing anything different, to go out and play, and I thought they were exceptional.
“We came out the traps early doors and played well. It was a beautiful day and we had a right decent crowd, so I’m really pleased that we did it for everybody.
“I’m really chuffed with their efforts this season and nobody can argue that we didn’t deserve it – look at the goals scored and the goals against, some of the games we’ve played, they’ve been outstanding, and I’m really pleased for everyone at the club.
“There are a few of the fans who have been going there for a long time, they spent a lot of time with us after it as well, so I’m really pleased and it’s brilliant.”
Rangers fans may also notice one of the tunes being played as the team celebrated their title, with Sunset Bros anthem “I’m Feeling It (In The Air)” blaring out of the dressing room.
The track has become synonymous with Rangers and Ibrox at the end of big victories with the most iconic use of the song coming in the 1-0 win over Celtic at the beginning of the season.
The Aussie electronic artists were so impressed by videos of the track being played at Ibrox they’ve even vowed to visit the famous stadium.
