Ex-Rangers star Calvin Bassey has sent a two-word response to Alan Shearer after a public spat over the Fulham defender’s performance against Manchester United.
The former Ibrox defender put in a monumental showing at both ends of the park in Fulham’s penalty kicks FA Cup win at Old Trafford.
Scoring the Cottagers’ goal in the eventual 1-1 draw, there was some controversy when Calvin Bassey wasn’t awarded the Man of the Match at full-time.
Alan Shearer instead gave the award to Bruno Fernandes on BBC Sport’s live coverage of the match, prompting an inquest from Bassey after the game.
Now Newcastle United legend Shearer has been offering his apologies to Bassey, much to the delight of ex-England full-back Micah Richards.

Alan Shearer offers Calvin Bassey an apology
Alan Shearer has apologised to Calvin Bassey after failing to award the ex-Rangers star Man of the Match in Fulham’s impressive win over Manchester United.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Shearer was clipped by Fulham offering a full and frank apology to Bassey after the fact.
“I send my apologies to Calvin Bassey then,” said Shearer. “He should’ve got Man of the Match. There you go.”
The comment left Micah Richards in hysterics, the ex-Manchester City star responding: “(Bassey) definitely should’ve got Man of the Match.
“He was like an absolute colossus at the back.”
Calvin Bassey also picked up on Alan Shearer’s apology on his official X account.
The ex-Rangers defender was looking to get a little more credit for his exploits in the Theatre of Dreams and was glad to finally get them.
Bassey graciously accepted Alan Shearer’s message, issuing the simple two-word response: “that’s better”.
Are Rangers due more Calvin Bassey credit?
Calvin Bassey came through the youth ranks at Leicester City before moving to Rangers in the summer of 2020.
Bassey then broke through into the Rangers team and was a crucial part of the side that reached the Europa League Final in 2022.
Moving to Ajax in the Netherlands the following summer, Bassey recouped Rangers a record-breaking initial £19.6m fee (according to BBC Sport), but struggled in Amsterdam.
Returning to the UK with Fulham a year later, Calvin Bassey has emerged as a key player at the Premier League club, missing all but one Premier League match this season.
The 25-year-old has become a regular feature of Marco Silva’s impressive young Fulham side and one of the brightest defensive talents in the division.
But there’s a feeling Rangers’ role in moulding Calvin Bassey is going unnoticed down south.
Some Rangers fans are calling for more Bassey recognition with regards the role the Gers played in the Nigerian international’s progression.
