Broadsheet journalist: Rangers interested in Mane-esque Santiago Moreno

Broadsheet journalist Mike McGrath has backed up claims that Rangers are one of a number of clubs interested in Colombian forward Santiago Moreno.

McGrath claims in his Transfer Notebook with the Telegraph that the Gers are tailing the 21-year-old alongside the likes of Premier League Leeds United and Southampton.

Moreno currently plies his trade in his homeland with America de Cali and according to this report is on the Gers’ “radar” and the Ibrox side’s Champions League qualification could sway a deal.

Not only that, but this report hypes Moreno up majorly by comparing the pacey frontman to Liverpool’s Senegalese forward Sadio Mane.

Mane, 29, cost Liverpool £34m from Southampton in 2016 [BBC Sport] and he is widely regarded as one of the main contributors to the Anfield club’s success in recent seasons.

McGrath’s claims Rangers are tailing Moreno also come after Football Insider claimed the Gers were considering a move for the player.

That report suggested the player was available to Rangers for £5m and that his appearances in the Copa Libertadores should ensure a work permit will be no problem.

In 22 games so far this season, Moreno has netted five goals and laid on a further four assists and McGrath believes he is expected to flourish in British football.

Rangers continue to be linked to a host of names ahead of the summer transfer window with the Gers also reportedly having a £4m bid accepted for a South American midfielder.
