Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has refuted claims that he has turned down the offer of a job with Bristol City, describing them as “paper talk”.
The Ibrox gaffer was speaking after his Rangers side defeated Coventry 2-0 in the club’s final pre-season friendly ahead of next week’s Scottish Premiership trip to Pittodrie.
Bristol Live and journalist Gregor McGregor had previously reported that Gerrard had turned an offer from Bristol City’s billionaire owner Steve Lansdown to join the club.

But Gerrard himself claims he hasn’t “heard anything from Bristol City” putting the reports down to “paper talk and rumours.”
“I am content here, I’m happy,” said Gerrard [Evening Express].
“My people haven’t heard anything from Bristol City, so I think it’s just paper talk and rumours.”
The story concerning Gerrard and Bristol City began when the Express claimed that the Robins had the Liverpool legend on a four-man shortlist after sacking former boss Lee Johnson.
Gerrard was named alongside former Brighton boss Chris Hughton, Charlton’s Lee Bowyer and Plymouth Argyle’s Ryan Lowe.
Despite the Express themselves later rubbishing the story and talkSPORT claiming Gerrard had “absolutely no interest” in the role, reports persisted.

The news will come as no surprise to Rangers fans who were not even remotely convinced that Gerrard would leave Ibrox for Ashton Gate.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and his backroom team signed a new contract at Rangers last season, tying them to the club until 2024.
