Benfica have been dealt another big blow ahead of their trip to Glasgow to face Rangers in the Europa League after another key player was reportedly ruled out of the match [Daily Record].

The Portuguese giants were already set to send a much-depleted squad for the game with the likes of Darwin Nuñez, Julian Weigl, Nuno Tavares and Jean Clair-Todibo all out of action.

Jorge Jesus was already short of options all over the pitch ahead of a game which could prove decisive in the race to top Group D.

Therefore, he’ll no doubt be frustrated that key man, Adel Taarabt, is also now unavailable after reportedly testing positive for Covid-19 [Daily Record].

The former QPR and AC Milan midfielder played the full 90 minutes when the two sides drew 3-3 in Lisbon earlier in the month and has featured in every Primeira Liga fixture he’s been fit for so far this season.

Taarabt is surprisingly yet to register a goal or an assist this season, but he’s a technically excellent and creative player with an eye for the spectacular and it’s a big blow for the visitors to be without him.

Rangers have been extremely strong at Ibrox since Steven Gerrard took over as manager and given the number of opposition players missing the game, the Gers have a massive opportunity to secure a third win from four group stage matches and, depending on the Standard Liege vs Lech Poznan result, possibly also a spot in the Round of 32.
