Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has been called up to the Colombia international squad for their World Cup Qualifiers – but it’s a summer tournament the striker may well have an eye on.

Alfie is off the back of celebrating a long-awaited league championship with the Gers and will now travel to meet up with his national side alongside some of the biggest names in football.

James Rodriguez, Duvan Zapata and Davinson Sanchez are all there amongst a plethora of talent who’ll want to turn around their early qualification form around.

As things stand Colombia are currently 7th in the ten-team round-robin with only one win in four with matches away to Peru and at home to Argentina coming up in June.

But before anyone can begin to think too far ahead or about Qatar 2022, one tournament the South American side will be attending is the Copa America.

This year’s tournament is set to take place between Argentina and Colombia between 13th June and 10th July with every match to be screened on the BBC.

Both Rangers fans and Alfredo himself will be dying to be involved and this upcoming international break is a chance to stake a claim for a place at the tournament.

It’s not going to be easy with a host of attacking talent in the squad, Morelos being called up alongside Atalanta duo Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata as well as River striker Rafael Santos Borre.

There could be more good news after the Copa America with Morelos too as one report claims the striker wants to stay at Rangers.
