With reports from Football Scotland that Colombia boss Carlos Quieroz is eager to watch Alfredo Morelos in action with a view to a call-up, it’s testament to the solid work Alfredo has done on the pitch.
He is a better player now than when he earned his first international cap back in September. Morelos assisted a late winner as Colombia beat Venezuela 2-1.
But should Quieroz call Morelos up to his next Colombia squad then it’ll only ever benefit Rangers. And not just because we’ll have a regular South American international in our midst.
Yes, if Morelos can break into that Colombia squad he will be playing with some of the world’s top stars. The likes of Falcao, James Rodriguez and Carlos Bacca are top players from which the wee man will learn.
Consistent international appearances increase Morelos’ financial value
But it will be a welcome boost to his financial value in football and to Rangers. Players of international quality are the most coveted in the game. At 22, Morelos is a young player very much on the verge of making that breakthrough consistently.
He might’ve earned that solitary cap against Venezuela, but he was always going to be challenged to improve to retain a place. At the moment, can they really leave him out? Morelos is on fire at Ibrox.
If Morelos can make that Colombia squad regularly, then Rangers will be able to add a few more pounds to his asking price. That’s if anyone is to come in with a serious offer for the player.
Morelos told Colombian radio station Caracol recently that while he’s happy at Rangers, his position would be reviewed come the season’s end. The wee man is also expecting some bids.
But should he consistently get a call-up to the Colombia squad between now and then, then Rangers are well within their rights to increase any asking price. In fact, we’d be crazy not to.
As a result, if Morelos does go in the summer, then it could be for some serious money.
