“Almost there” – Injury update sees Rangers forward drop playing return hint

It’s easy to get frustrated with Cyriel Dessers when he is leading the line for Rangers but it has to be remembered that he should only be playing a supporting role to Danilo.

The Brazilian was the signing of the summer in a reported £6m deal but Gers boss Philippe Clement has hardly been able to pick him due to two injuries that couldn’t have been unluckier.

Rangers are having to make do without Danilo for the long term though with Fabio Silva providing a different type of option, a promising social media post suggesting that the 24-year old is positive that he will be back soon.

Rangers fans given boost with Danilo training update

Dessers numbers have been outstanding since Clement rocked up at Ibrox and transformed the fortunes of several members of his squad.

The problem is, he just isn’t consistent enough – even within a 90 minute performance.

A fully fit Danilo would be an exciting proposition in this Rangers team, with his two absences coming just as he was hitting form.

A fractured cheek bone caused when scoring a goal followed by a lateral collateral knee ligament injury that was nothing more than an innocuous coming together.

An incident that didn’t lead to him needing to have treatment and one that he was able to play on with.

A minor knock that has led to major open surgery needing to be done.

His latest update is a step in the right direction, literally.

He’s not exactly doing shuttles but single leg squats are a box that needs to be ticked before any athlete can return to the open chain exercises that progress to running – “almost there” the striker has teased.

The good thing is, it looks like Danilo hasn’t had any set backs so far because, every time he has posted a new video, it has been one that is more advanced from the last.

The timeline remains long term but the season still has enough time that, if he continues his current work rate, he might just be able to play his part.
