Here, we list all of Walter Smith’s Rangers signings made during his highly successful two spells as manager of the club.

Quite simply, Walter Smith was the godfather of Rangers’ modern history. He was easily one of the most dominant managers top-flight Scottish football has ever seen.

He first joined Rangers on April 16, 1986 as Graeme Souness recruited him from Dundee United to be his new assistant manager at Ibrox.

Souness left for Liverpool in 1991 and Walter subsequently stepped up to the main managerial position, embarking on an incredibly triumphant eight years in Govan.

Walter led Rangers to seven of their 9IAR league titles during the 1990s, as well as lifting the Scottish Cup and League Cup three times each.

His first spell came to an end in 1998 when Celtic stopped Rangers from winning 10IAR. He had already announced his departure before the title was wrapped up by the Light Blues’ city rivals.

Walter returned for a second spell in 2007 to rescue Rangers after Frenchman Paul Le Guen’s disastrous stint as boss.

The former Scotland boss went on to win three league titles in succession, while also securing another two Scottish Cup medals and three League Cup crowns.

All in all, Walter is the second-most successful Rangers manager of all time with a haul of 21 major trophies. Only Bill Struth won more honours as boss with 30.

Why is he one of the best managers Rangers have ever had? A massive part of it is down to his recruitment and using the cash he had to spend very well.

Walter made a whopping 114 signings as Rangers manager between 1991-1998 and 2007-2011. So below, Rangers News takes a look at ever single one of them.
